The cheapest purifier can cost more to own if its filters are expensive or need frequent replacement. Compare the exact compatible filter and the interval assumption together.

Levoit's original Core 300-series filter is listed at $29.99. At an illustrative six-to-eight-month interval, that is about $44.99–$59.98 a year.
Do not mistake a discount for cost
Blueair's displayed subscription prices are 15% below its crossed-out filter prices. The table uses the undiscounted amount so the products share one basis.
These are dated purchase prices, not hands-on filter-life results. Taxes, shipping, electricity, purifier purchase price and optional specialty filters are excluded.

Arithmetic uses filter price × 12 ÷ months between replacements, rounded to cents. The Core 600S annual figure stays unknown because the cited manufacturer page gives usage-dependent guidance without a fixed interval.
The assumptions matter more than the decimals
Levoit Core 300S-P: the original filter page recommends replacement every six to eight months. Vital 200S-P: its filter page says six to twelve months and explicitly allows earlier or later replacement according to use and environment. These annual figures are ranges, not promises.
Levoit Core 600S-P: its filter page says replacement may be earlier or later depending on use and pollution but does not publish a fixed number of months. The Home Briefing does not convert that statement into a made-up annual cost.
Blueair 311i Max: Blueair says the filter lasts up to nine months and that its RealTrack calculation depends on fan speed, usage time and pollution. “Up to” is a ceiling under its stated method, so $59.99 is an illustration at exactly nine months, not a maximum annual cost.
Annualized figures describe ongoing replacement consumption, not first-year cash spending; a filter included with the purifier can change when the first paid replacement is needed.
If a filter lasts less time in your home, yearly cost rises. A filter indicator helps with timing but does not make intervals identical between brands.
What was included
The comparison uses each brand's everyday original particle-and-carbon option, one filter at a time. It excludes Blueair's 15% subscription price and its higher-priced AllergenBlock and SmokeBlock choices. It also excludes marketplace-compatible filters because construction, claims and availability can differ.
Before purchase, confirm the filter model, pack count and current checkout terms. Similar purifier names do not guarantee filter compatibility.
Core 300 compatibility discrepancy: the linked filter page's summary names Core 300S-P, but its “compatible with only” list omits it. The purifier page links that filter. Ask Levoit to confirm the exact filter SKU for your unit before ordering. Check the conflicting listing.
